Seigneur Of Torraille, Surnamed Le Riche, married Ertemburga. He andErtemburga were the ancestors of Harcourt family of England. Later inlife, Torf wandered to the country of Greenland, married a 2d time, about1007,to Gudrida, a widow of anexplorer; sailed an expedition to Vineland(America) in 1007. Here his wife gave birth to the first white born inVineland. After three years they returned to Greenland where Torf died.In her bereavement, Gudridea made a pilgrimage to Romeand died later ina cloister founded by her son in Iceland. Parents Bernard Harcourt andSprote Of Bourgoyne not proven; no known surname.
Torf, called "the Rich," had three sons. The eldest, Tourade, is said tobe the ancestor of Beaumont or Bellomont, Counts of Mellent, in France,and Earls of Leicester. The second son, Turchetil, Seigneur deTurqueville and Turquerange, was governor to William II, Duke ofNormandy.
